Jobs

Entrepreneurs bring innovation, investment capital and new business to our communities. I started my own small business over a decade ago. Over that time, I have worked with many family and local businesses that have had a tremendous impact on our community. These businesses provide vital services, keep people employed, and boost local economies.

Out in rural parts of Lane County, small businesses are integral to the area. Our neighbors have great ideas for starting companies but are hesitant to make the leap from a personal vision to a viable business. We need commissioners that are dedicated to help them grow and succeed. The greatest potential job growth for our community is in these small enterprises and existing small businesses. I've made that leap, it can be done and I want to help others to do the same by providing services through Lane County geared toward helping our local and small businesses.

Many employers are having trouble finding skilled workers. We need to find ways to incentivize retraining programs to help workers in Lane County have the qualifications necessary to get a good job. We can also start working at the high school level to give students the training they need to have a successful career. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) gives students experience in those rapidly growing fields.  Career and Technical Education (CTE) is critical for students who want to have future careers in the trades and do not intend to go to a traditional four-year university. I want to find ways to bring STEM and CTE programs to every high school in Lane County as well as expand mentorship and internships for students.
