HOUSING & HOMELESSNESS

Lane County has a housing crisis that must be addressed at every level. The ability to purchase or rent an affordable place to live is quickly becoming out of reach for too many Lane residents. In her first term, Heather Buch was a leader in passing the Affordable Housing Action Plan, which provides a roadmap for increasing housing supply and affordability by expanding revolving loan programs, utilizing unused land in the Eugene-Springfield metro area, and partnering with faith-based organizations to find locations for new shelters.

Heather Buch is currently focused on addressing the immediate need for emergency housing for Lane County’s homeless residents. The County has several ongoing projects, including the opening of The Commons on MLK with 24-7 wraparound services; the creation of a new Shelter & Navigation Center at the old VA clinic; transforming hotel rooms into transitional houses for wildfire victims; and providing homes and services to families with children on the Lane County Fairgrounds site.
