PUBLIC SAFETY

Public safety funding in Lane County’s rural communities has fallen year after year. Heather Buch believes we must fully-fund the emergency services that folks outside of Eugene and Springfield rely on. She also believes in investing in community-based organizations and non-profits that use evidence-based programs to combat the root causes of crime and poverty. In early 2021, Lane County announced a text-to-911 service, in partnership with the Sheriff’s office, covering most of the county.

To build resiliency ahead of wildfires or other natural disasters, Heather is working to strengthen the network of cell towers that we rely on for 911 calls in case of emergency. She is also supporting communications upgrades to provide better equipment, speed, connectivity, and reach in the rural parts of our region.
