Keeping Lane County Communities Safe

As County Commissioner for East Lane County’s rural communities, Heather Buch knows we need to get back to basics. That starts with restoring funding to sheriff patrols and improving 9-1-1 response times, especially outside Eugene and Springfield.

Heather funded six new mobile crisis teams to help people in mental health emergencies in both metro and rural areas. In their first year, these teams answered more than 4,000 calls. She partnered with the Sheriff’s Office to deploy a text-to-911 service covering most of the county. There’s more work to do, and rural Lane County residents can’t wait.
